GALLERY PREPARATION

Give a mixed gallery consistent maximum dimensions

Handle portrait, landscape and square images without stretching them or expecting identical output dimensions.

A gallery assembled from several sources may include tall photographs, wide details and square illustrations. Consistency does not have to mean forcing every source into the same shape. For a fit-based workflow, it means agreeing on a useful bounding box and checking how each orientation occupies it.

Choose the display requirement first

Identify the largest size the gallery needs in its intended layout. If the requirement is a 1600 by 1600 maximum, use that as the common box. Keep composition decisions separate from the fit operation. A website may crop a thumbnail while displaying the full photograph elsewhere, so the uploaded rectangle and its visible thumbnail are not necessarily the same shape.

Predict three representative results

A 3200 by 2400 landscape image fitted to 1600 by 1600 becomes 1600 by 1200. A 2400 by 3200 portrait becomes 1200 by 1600. A 3000 by 3000 square becomes 1600 by 1600. Each touches a different part of the same limit. These dimensions are consistent with a shared rule even though the exported widths and heights differ.

Watch sources that are already small

RSFrameFit can enlarge a small source to the requested box. It does not include a shrink-only control. For example, a 600 by 400 image in a 1600 by 1600 box can become 1600 by 1067 after rounding. That larger grid does not supply new captured detail. Separate small sources and decide whether enlargement is appropriate before adding them to the same batch.

Inspect the gallery as a group

After exporting, check that tall images have not been stretched, wide images still show their full sides and square images remain square. Open the gallery in its destination layout to look for unexpected cropping by the website. Keep filenames that distinguish portrait and landscape views, and preserve the originals so that a future layout can use a different box without another generation of resizing.
